How does a person get into mushing?- The best and most willing resource: Ask a Musher
- Get a dog or some dogs. Several breeds of dogs were orginally bred to pull and work. Mixes too!
- Get a comfortable harness for each dog.
- Get the dog(s) accustomed to the new harness by playing or going for a walk while wearing the harness.
- Get some information on sled dog commands and start teaching your dog the commands.
- Get a scooter, bike, or dryland rig.
- Get the necessary lines to attach the dog to the "sled".
- Find an open, empty and safe area to teach the dog(s) how to pull the rig. Work on the commands.
